Primary Scripture: Genesis 15:1-21
Well, if you have your Bible, please turn to Genesis chapter 15. We're going through Genesis verse by verse and chapter by chapter. And today, we're on a very famous passage of Scripture. Genesis 15 is the covenant that God makes with Abram, or as we know him better, Abraham. I've entitled this message, "Light in the Darkness."
Now, many people know the name J. Hudson Taylor. There are books written about him. One of the books that I have about J. Hudson Taylor, the great missionary to China, is called, "God's Man in China." When they started, it was against the Christians and against the missionaries, and the nationals started to kill Christians and destroy mission work and so it was very, very difficult. Some have said up to 100,000 people died in the Boxer Rebellion, and many of those were missionaries and native Christians. Hudson Taylor to say, "I can't read, I can't think, I can't even pray," he was a great prayer warrior, and he said, "I can trust."
You know, David had that same experience. One of the reasons I love the psalms is because it's so true to life. And David said in Psalm 13 - I love this in the Living Bible translation, "Answer me, O LORD my God; give me light in my darkness, lest I die."
But before Hudson Taylor and before David, Abram had a "dark nig ...
