If you have your Bible, please turn to Genesis chapter 12. We want to talk about, "When Fear Trumps Faith."

Now, fear is something that all of us are familiar with. I don't think there's a person on the planet who doesn't know about fear. We fear lots of different things. And sometimes fears are directed at a particular thing. Now, how many people in here say you have a fear of snakes? Anybody, a fear of snakes? Lots of people have a fear of snakes. How about spiders? All right. There used to be a song way back when by Jim Stafford, "I don't like spiders and snakes." Put them together. Some people have a fear of water. Does anybody have a fear of water? No? Sometimes when we talk to people about being baptized, and they have a fear, a phobia, of water, it's a really big deal for them to put their face under the water. Some people have a fear of the ocean. I have a fear of getting too far into the ocean mainly because of one particular movie. (Soundtrack of "Jaws" plays). I liked the ocean until I saw Jaws, and it's been called one of the most frightening movies to have ever been. So, we have lots of fears. And those are just more like phobias. But what about the fear that can rush into your heart and into my heart that stops our forward progress with the Lord? What happens when you get overwhelmed with fear and it trumps your faith? Peter had great faith when he saw Jesus walking on the water. He said, "Lord, if it's really You, bid me come to You on the water." And Jesus said to him, "Come!" And Peter got out of the boat, and he walked on the water to go to Jesus. Man, that's great faith to walk on the water. Then it says, "But seeing the wind, he became afraid and began to sink. And he cried out, and he said, 'Lord, save me.'" And Jesus stretched forth His hand and, and grabbed him, and said, "O ye of little faith. Thou ...
