The Call of Abraham (20 of 61)
In the Beginning

Primary Scripture: Genesis 11:10-12:8
If you have your Bible, please turn to Genesis chapter 11. We're going to be in chapter 11 and some of chapter 12 talking about "The Call of Abraham."
Now, I was seventeen years old when God called me, spoke to my heart. Didn't hear an audible voice. I think it was Charles Lowry that said, it doesn't make sense when we talk about God speaking to our hearts. We want to hear Him speak to our ears. But the Lord, as a Christian, the Lord lives on the inside, so He'd speak on the inside. And I've heard the Lord speak to my heart, and the first time I heard Him speak to my heart was when I was seventeen years old and heard the gospel and understood. And the Holy Spirit was illuminating what I was hearing. And I heard from the Lord that if I died, I wouldn't go to heaven; that I had no basis to go to heaven. He made that very clear to me. And it was that night, seventeen years old, and I put my faith and trust in Christ and gave my life to Christ. And that was the call to salvation. But when I was thirty-three years old, the Lord called me into the ministry. That was a very significant time in my life as I was praying and I was wrestling with this decision, "God, are You calling me to do this?" And when I surrendered to that, I hear the Lord say to me, "I've been waiting for you to make that decision. Now we have a deal." That was very important and very special, the call of God to salvation and to vocational service. Both of those calls were life-changing for me. So, I want to ask you. I want you to think about it as we talk about the call of Abram, who became Abraham, and we'll kind of use those names interchangeably, do you have a testimony of God's call to your life - a call to salvation? That should be the testimony of every Christian. I'm able to share God calling me to faith in Christ, showing me that I was a sinner and needed a Savior ...
