Title: Heaven On Earth (4 of 6)
Series: From Here to Eternity
Author: James Merritt
Text: Revelation 21:1-4, 27
Introduction
1. Today we are going to talk about a place that untold numbers of people have talked about, dreamed about, hoped for, longed for and we believe have gone there and that is heaven. I am sure if I were to ask you the question, "Do you believe you are going to heaven?" Many of you would say that you do and you would say it for the right reason, because you have placed your faith in the only one that can get you there - the Lord Jesus Christ.
2. It may shock you to know that the scripture says that heaven is not really our final destination. I have heard untold numbers of people say, "When I die I'm going to live forever in heaven." Half of that statement is true. If you are a believer you are going to die and you are going to live forever. You are actually not going to stay in heaven forever; you are going to come back to Earth with Jesus to a new heaven and a new Earth and live there forever.
3. We are in a series we are calling "From Here To Eternity." We are exploring what the Word of God says about the future - not the future on earth, but the future beyond earth, not the future in this life, but the future after this life. There is one thing we know from the very beginning of time when God created this world and that is God intended for the human race to live in a perfect world and that intention has never changed. The story of history is going to end is exactly the way the story of the Bible ends with God's people restored to a restored new world where we are going to live with him forever.
4. What is it going to be like? Our final home, the place we are going to live forever - yes, you could call it "heaven on earth." We are told in great detail in one of the two easiest books of the Bible to find, the Book of Revelation which is the last book. It is the most fascinating book I believe in the Bible although it i ...
