Noah and the Favor of God (14 of 61)
In the Beginning
Pastor Jeff Schreve
Primary Scripture: Genesis 6:8-22
If you have your Bible, turn to Genesis chapter 6. We want to talk about, in my opinion, one of the greatest men in the Old Testament, one of the greatest men in the Bible, and that is Noah.
I heard a pastor who was one of these guys that played a little fast and loose with the Word of God, say that Noah was a drunk hillbilly. His church laughed. And I started studying the life of Noah some years ago, and I thought, Noah is one of the greatest men who ever lived. Noah stood alone, and he stood tall for the LORD in a day and age where the whole world was against God.
You know, as we talked about, in Genesis 6, God looked at the world, and it was the year 1536 from the day of creation, 1536 years had passed, and the LORD was sorry that He made man on the earth. And He was grieved in His heart because every intent and thoughts of men's hearts were only evil continually. And you had men who were mighty in wickedness and mighty in evil, that were taking women and creating harems, and there was vice and there was violence, and there was debauchery and depravity everywhere God looked. There was one guy, one guy, that He could use out of the millions, billions of people. We don't know how many people were on the earth. You know, it's kind of interesting. When you think about the worldwide flood that came in year 1656, and the question is, how many people were on the earth? I told you before, some answersingenesis said maybe as minimum 750 million. They said maximum, 4 billion. I heard John MacArthur say maximum 7 billion. I thought this was interesting. So, worldwide population in 1850 was 1.2 billion. A hundred years later, 1955, the worldwide population is 2.5 billion. Twenty-five years later, in 1980, the population is 4.5 billion. And in 2022, the population is 8 billion. So, it has jumped so much in just 30, 40, 50-year increments ...
