The 'Rest' of Day Seven (4 of 61)
In the Beginning
Pastor Jeff Schreve
Primary Scripture: Genesis 2:1-3
If you have your Bible, please turn to Genesis chapter 2. We started, a few weeks back, a study in the Book of Genesis. We're calling this series, In the Beginning. The word genesis means "beginning." We learn, right off the bat, in the Book of Genesis that God is eternal, that God is the Creator, and that God made everything in heaven and earth in six days. Genesis is an important book, and Genesis is a maligned book. Ah, people will say, "Well, you know, the first eleven chapters of Genesis is just, that's just myth. It's just story." But it's the word of God. And if you downgrade Genesis, the first eleven chapters, and say, "Well, that's a myth," well then, you leave out the fall of man. You say that's just all just a story. Adrian Rogers used to say, "If Genesis 3 is a myth, then John 3 is a farce that says you must be born again." The Bible fits together. And if you try and take one piece out and say, "Well, that's not important. That's just made up," the whole thing falls apart like a house of cards. It holds together. And when we think of creation, there are really three basic ways to understand it. First of all, you can have the idea that everything was created by atheistic evolution. There is no God. We showed you last week the comments from Richard Dawkins, who wrote the book, "The God Delusion." He says there is no God, and everything just came into being by evolution. But we know that when you really think about that, that's ridiculous. The idea in the equation that nobody times nothing equals everything is idiotic. If there's a creation, we know that there is a Creator. There has to be a Creator. Things just don't come into being. Where did the things come from in the first place? And Richard Dawkins has no answer to that. So, that's the first option. "Okay, I believe in atheistic evolution," which is a ridiculous thing to b ...
