In the Beginning

If you have your Bible, turn to page one, Genesis chapter 1. We started a series last week called In the Beginning. It's a series on the Book of Genesis. We looked at Genesis chapter 1, verse 1, and today we want to look at the six days of creation that are detailed in Genesis chapter 1. We're going to look at this question: Evolution or Creation? Evolution or Creation?
You know, the first eleven chapters of Genesis, is especially highly maligned. People really dislike Genesis chapter 1 because it says that God created everything. "In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth." And you have people today in universities, scientists and people like that say, "Well, you know, that's just a fairy tale. That's just a fantasy. We know so much more now, and we believe in evolution. We don't believe in creation." Ben Stein did a movie some years ago, a documentary, called No Intelligence Allowed. And he talked about how in the university system, unless you buy into evolution, your career is going nowhere. You're going to not make it in institutions of higher learning because they've all just made the determination that evolution is the way it happened. It is called the theory of evolution, and it's a theory that doesn't hold water.
I was reading how before Charles Darwin produced the book, on the Origin of Species in 1859, before that time almost all of science believed that God created the heavens and the earth just like it says in the Book of Genesis. And they believed that the earth was about 6,000 years old. And then Darwin comes on the scene, and he has this theory of evolution, and people flock to it. Somebody has well said this: "What is evolution? Evolution is the anesthetic that deadens the pain for those who refuse to believe in God."
