Text: Galatians 5:22-26
INTRODUCTION: As we continue to look at What Holy Living Looks Like, we have come to the part of the text where Paul is dealing with the last three fruit of the Spirit. If you recall, the first three (love, joy, and peace) were Godward aspects of the Christian life; meaning they reflected our relationship to God. The next three (longsuffering, gentleness, and goodness) were manward, thus showing how we relate to each other; and the last three were selfward meaning how we should conduct ourselves. The truth of the matter is, if we did not have some kind of guideline to follow, we would lead ourselves into depravity and destruction without even realizing it.
God definitely had a divine plan in showing us all nine of the fruit or characteristics so we would know how He wants us to live. Again, we must all come to the conclusion that the lives we live are not our own; God touches us every morning with a finger of divine love and wakes us up to see a new day. And in doing so, He "refills" our mercies cup so we would have enough to make it through the day. It is just like God to be the provider and sustainer that only He could be to help us make it on a daily basis. Let's be real...
Some days you know you want to give up;
Some days you know you want to throw in the towel;
Some days you know you would rather the Lord just rapture you outta here because you do not want to deal with it anymore.
That is where the new mercies come in the help you make it through the day. The Bible teaches us in Lamentations 3:22-23, "It is of the Lord's mercies that we are not consumed, because his compassions fail not. 23 They are new every morning: great is thy faithfulness."
