Series: Holy Living

Text: Galatians 5:22-26
INTRODUCTION: The Bible teaches us that when God made man, man was good. If you were to peruse the creation story in Genesis 1, you will find that everything God made was good, even to the point that what He made were very good. Because man was made good, God intended for man to be like Him and conduct himself accordingly.
Let's be mindful that the God we serve is a holy God and He expects us live holy as well. He commanded us in Leviticus 11:44a, "For I am the LORD your God: ye shall be holy; for I am holy:" Again, God is not making a suggestion or recommendation here, but is commanding us to be like Him and be holy.
It was because of the entrance of sin that man began travelling down an "unholy" road and it took man out of a right relationship with God. When Adam ate of the forbidden fruit, sin entered into the world, and man began living an unholy life before God.
Because of this, in Exodus 20, God defined for us what obedient and holy living looks like and worded it in such a way to command us what not to do. He told us:
We shall have no other gods before Him;
We shall make any graven images;
We shall not take the name of the LORD in vain;
We shall remember the Sabbath and keep it holy;
We shall honor our father and mother, that our days may be long on the earth;
We shall not kill;
We shall not commit adultery;
We shall not steal;
We shall not bear false witness; and,
We shall not covet our neighbor's house.
As a result of sin manifesting itself in mankind, it changed man's attitude, demeanor, and desires. There was/is an insatiable need and desire to look out for and only be concerned about our three favorite people...me, myself, and I. Sin has caused us to look inward and not look outside of ourselves to see to the needs of others.
When you look at today's society, what you see is a lot of selfishness, self ...
