Title: It's Time To Get Our Praise On!
Author: Darrow Perkins
Text: Psalm 95:1-11

INTRODUCTION: Rick Warren, in his book, The Purpose Driven Life, gives us at least five reasons for our existence. He states:

Purpose #1: We were Planned for God's Pleasure.

Purpose #2: We were Formed for God's Family.

Purpose #3: We were Created to become like Christ.

Purpose #4: We are Shaped for Serving God.

Purpose #5: We were Made for a Mission.1

All of these point to the fact that we as human beings were created with a purpose in mind. It is not to live our lives according to our own desires and ambitions, but rather to give God what's due His holy and righteous name. What I like about the five reasons is that they are inclusive and exclusive. It's inclusive in the idea that everyone has the responsibility to praise the name of the Lord and glorify Him. Praise is not something reserved for people who have been knowing the Lord the longest (although they usually don't mind praising God), or those who have recently been healed, delivered, or set free. Praise God is for everybody, young and old, great and small, rich or poor, cute or ugly, fat or skinny, whatever situation we are in life, it's our responsibility. It's exclusive in the idea that God has made man in his image and after his likeness, therefore we were specifically made to give him praise. Through the Prophet Isaiah, God tells us in 43:7, "Even every one that is called by my name: for I have created him for my glory, I have formed him; yea, I have made him." Because God has created us, formed us, and made is, "It's Time to Get Our Praise On!"

BACKGROUND: Psalm 95 is a Psalm of Praise. Written by the hand of King David, he had no problems at all giving God His praise. What I liked about King David is that he did not let the people around him dictate his praise or his desire to praise God. When given the command to move the Ark of the Covenant from Obed-edom's house to Jerusalem ...
