Title: The Faithfulness of God (4 of 6)
Series: The Attributes of God
Author: David Davis
Text: 2 Timothy 2:13; Genesis 18:25
2 Timothy 2:13 - "If we believe not, yet he abideth faithful: he cannot deny himself."
Genesis 18:25 - "That be far from thee to do after this manner, to slay the righteous with the wicked: and that the righteous should be as the wicked, that be far from thee: Shall not the Judge of all the earth do right?"
Although widely separated in time, these verses speak the same word to all time and to all people.
"God abideth faithful." Paul in effect said, "He cannot be false to Himself."
Abraham was baffled by the inconsistency of man, breathed out his trust in God, "Shall not the Judge of all the earth do right?"
I remember years ago when there was a blackout in New York. There was mass panic -- many thought it was the end of the world. Candles were selling for $100 -- there was looting and destruction.
We got just a glimpse of the world without the faithfulness of God.
Do we take for granted each day that we live in a world that God is steadfast and who is always present and faithful to our every need?
Lamentations 3:21-23 - "This I recall to my mind, therefore have I hope. (22) It is of the LORD'S mercies that we are not consumed, because his compassions fail not. (23) They are new every morning: great is thy faithfulness."
Thumb through a concordance and you will discover it is to be a favorite theme of the Bible.
"The Faithfulness of God."
The Psalmist sings about it...
It is the unwavering conviction of the Prophets...
Jesus taught about the Father's care...
Epistles -- in more than a dozen places -- someone is talking about the "faithfulness of God"
"Hold fast your faith without wavering for He who has called you is faithful."
He will not fail you! In Him is no darkness, no wavering, no shadow of turning. You can count on Him -- put your trust in Him -- for He is God, utterly dependable.
