In the early 1970's our family lived just south of our little town, just outside the city limits and our cousin's lived across the field from us. We were the best of friends and were always doing things together. Sue was my second cousin and her kids were our third cousins. Curtis was her oldest son and we were almost the same age and you never saw one of us without the other.

The only issue about us hanging out together was their dominecker rooster, who strutted around as if he owned the neighborhood. In order to go from my house to Curtis's house, I had to cross a small pasture and then pass over a barbed-wire fence. If that dominecker rooster was anywhere near that face, I knew I was in for a rough time, because that rooster hated us kids.

I was always so fearful to cross that fence, knowing that the old dominecker would come running, before flogging me. I was actually much faster than that big fat rooster, but it was challenging just to sneak by him without a fight. I still go by and visit with Sue and Curtis on many Friday nights, as we reminisce about the good old days and laugh about old "Domi..."

In the story before us today, we read about another rooster, but this one was more like an alarm clock. The rooster in our story today was programmed to crow as soon as Peter denied the Lord three times. That rooster was ready and waiting to crow, though Peter had forgot about the Lord's warning him. There are times that us believers strut around like "Ole Domi" thinking that we are invincible, but the Lord has a way of bringing us down to earth.
