Title: What Holy Living Does Not Look Like Part 5 (5)
Author: Darrow Perkins
Text: Galatians 5:19-21
INTRODUCTION: Have you ever met or come across somebody who always wants everything their way? You make a suggestion and they tell you, "I hear what you're saying, but I still want to do it my way." They may give you the impression that you're interested in what you have to say or even what you might want to do, but in the end, it's still done just the way they want to see it done. You've probably heard the statement..."It's my way or the highway!"
Rick Warren, founding pastor of the Saddleback Church in Lake Forest, CA said, "It's not about you. The purpose of your life is far greater than your own personal fulfillment, your peace of mind, or even your happiness."1
We're even living in a time when sometimes I question who is raising who? Some parents deal with their children with "kid gloves" to the point of asking the children to do things instead of telling them what's required of them. When the kids can't get their way, they throw fits of rage, have tantrums, fall out on the floor, and cry real loud, all in an effort to get their way. We can't stop there because we also know some adults who do some of the very same things - they get real angry, scream real loud, throw things around the house, all in an effort to get their way.
Somebody once said, "Too many people conduct their lives cafeteria-style: self-service only."2 The mindset is that a lot of cases we're looking for all things to work out just the way we want them to, event at the expense of other people's feelings, emotions, and their well-being. This mindset tells us that the person who operates like this is only looking out for their own motives, agendas, and personal fulfillment. If we are going to operate like this, maybe someday, someone will ask you, "is this what unholy living looks like?"
