INTRODUCTION: If we're not careful, we will let society, and some of the people around us tell us exactly what to do all the time. The influence sometimes is so strong that we even feel compelled to do so either out of obligation or out of persuasion. An example of this can be found in watching TV commercials:

Why is it that pharmaceutical companies are advertising their products on TV knowing that the consumer cannot get this medication without going to get a prescription from the doctor? They do it so we can influence the doctor to write us a prescription for their medication.

Why is it that beer companies advertise their products on TV and make it seem like your life will be the better for purchasing their products? They make it seem like everything in your life will work out better for you or in your favor because you bought their product.

Why is it that clothing companies try to make us feel like everything good that can possibly happen in our lives will only happen when you buy their clothing? What they don't realize is that they are probably doing more harm than good when they have those models who are a size zero (0) wear their clothes or men who have six-pack abs model their clothes and people begin to think they are not socially acceptable because they can't wear that size clothing and it begins to effect their self-esteem. If I can be real for a moment, we don't need "self-esteem," we need "God-esteem!" Let me help you with that...the Bible is very clear when God said through David in Psalm 139:14, "I will praise thee; for I am fearfully and wonderfully made: marvelous are thy works; and that my soul knoweth right well." God has made you who you are and He is pleased at what He sees. We don't need society trying to make us into something or somebody that we are not! We just have to be comfortable with who we are, but more importa ...
