INTRODUCTION: Sin is a work of the flesh. Although God created us and this flesh we live in, man was the one who brought forth sin into the world. The Preacher's Outline and Sermon Bible says here, "The flesh or human body is given by God; it's for God's use. In fact, when a person is converted to Christ, his body becomes a temple for God to dwell in through the Holy Spirit. The Christian is not told to cleanse himself from the flesh but from 'the lust of the flesh,' and from 'the works of the flesh.' The works of the flesh are the fruit of indwelling sin, and sin originates in the heart not in the flesh."1
It is because of the weakness of the flesh, the choices we make and have made that has caused sin to be part of our lives on a regular basis.
Sin doesn't care about your status, your spiritual walk or how good a person you may think you are, sin will find you and will have your particular flavor available for you. We want to talk about What Holy Living Does Not Look Like.
BACKGROUND/TEXT: Our text today is found in the Book of Galatians. Written by the hand of the Apostle Paul to the church in Galatia, it is called the "heart of the Gospel" by the Preacher's Outline and Sermon Bible because "Man must receive the gospel by faith. He does not work for it by keeping the law. The law does not produce faith. It only works a curse. Therefore, Christ Himself has to redeem man. But man must go beyond receiving the gospel; he must live it out in his life. This is done by the power of the cross and by the power of the Holy Spirit."2 They further write, "The message of Galatians will pierce the heart of any generation and stir it to action - if that generation will just hear and heed its message."3
