Questioning Christianity-Why would a loving God send people to Hell?

I want to welcome you back to week three of this sermon series I'm calling, "Questing Christianity." We live in a world that has a lot of questions... a world that's seeking answers... and the Bible tells us, we-as believers-should know, not only what we believe, but why we believe it.

[1 Peter 3:15] tells us to... "[be] ready at any time to give a defense to anyone who asks you for a reason for the hope that is in you." Let me ask you today: Why do you believe what you believe?

I recently heard a story about a new Christian... that was traveling on an airplane. She was sitting next to an intellectual man who was obviously educated far beyond her intelligence... and when he noticed that she was reading her Bible, he responded in disgust, rolled his eyes, and then said under his breath, 'you cannot be serious?'

She said-'excuse me?' The man responded, "You don't really believe that nonsense, do you?" "Of course I believe it," she said, "that's why I'm reading it."
"What about the Jonah and the whale story? Do you believe that?" She said, "I do." He said, "Well, how did it happen?" The lady responded, "I don't know how it happened, I guess I'll have to ask Jonah whenever I get to heaven."

The man said, "Well, what if Jonah isn't in Heaven? What if he's in hell?"
She said, "Well... Then I guess you're gonna have to ask him yourself."

How many of you believe the Bible is true? If you believe the Bible is true, then you should believe there is a real place called heaven... and a real place called hell.

The reason I ask that question is because I recently read a Gallup poll that says, only 60% of Americans believe in hell today... and only 4% of Americans believe they're going there.
