Title: Canaan Isn't a Welfare State (20 of 29)
Series: Walking in Victory-Lessons in Triumphant Christian Living from the Book of Joshua
Author: Mike Stone
Text: Joshua 17:14-18
Keep in mind, Canaan is not a picture of heaven and it's not even a picture of how you get into heaven. In other words, Canaan is not a picture of salvation but it is a picture of how you LIVE OUT your salvation. Canaan is a picture of victorious Christian living.
Previously we've seen that this victory will never be experienced without war. Tonight, we see that this victory will never be accomplished without work. And we see that Canaan isn't a welfare state.
A conservative farmer was talking to a liberal farmer about taxes. The conservative farmer said to the liberal farmer, "You mean to tell me if you had two farms that you worked hard for, and I had no farm because I was lazy, that you would give me one of your farms?" The liberal said, "I sure would!"
The conservative farmer said to the liberal farmer, "You mean to tell me if you had two tractors that you worked hard for, and I had no tractor because I was lazy, that you would give me one of your tractors?" The liberal said, "I sure would!"
The conservative farmer said to the liberal farmer, "You mean to tell me if you had two trucks that you worked hard for, and I had no truck because I was lazy, that you would give me one of your trucks?" The liberal said, "I sure would!"
The conservative farmer said to the liberal farmer, "You mean to tell me if you had two milk cows that you worked hard for, and I had no milk cow because I was lazy, that you would give me one of your cows?" The liberal said, "That's not fair! You know I have two cows!"
A liberal has been described as someone who's generous with someone else's money!
In 2017 it is estimated that more than $1 trillion of the roughly $4 trillion federal budget will be spent on various means-tested welfare. That does not include SS and Medicare.
