I will remind you tonight as I have in every lesson that Canaan is not a picture of heaven. In the book of Joshua, we see clear evidence Canaan is a picture of victorious and triumphant living.
The life of victory is a life of blessing. The life of blessing is life of obedience.
The grace of God is unconditional. The blessings of God are conditional.
The major condition, the #1 prerequisite to walking in victory, favor, and blessing is OBEDIENCE.
Imagine an employee works 8-5. One week, he leaves at 1:00 every day. Rather than firing him, the boss pays him only 1/2 of his weekly pay and puts a note of warning, "Stay until 5 each day or don't come back." The man protests. The boss fires him.
None of us blames the boss in that illustration.
Often, we are that way with God. God gives us a full and unambiguous word of instruction. We do part of it but want full credit and full blessing.
God says, "Flee fornication." We say, "I came to church. What more do You want?"
God says, "Give a tithe and an offering?" We say, "I put $10 in this week. What more do You want?"
God says, "Raise your children as disciples of Jesus." We say, "I brought them to SS twice this month. What more do You want?"
What He wants is complete and total obedience. Because partial obedience is total disobedience.
I'm calling it "The DECEPTION of Partial Obedience" because just like ancient Israel we can be blinded to our own disobedience...deceived over our own rebellion...because all we can see are the partial evidences of a submitted life.
This sobering text is a reminder of a simple truth: You will never walk in spiritual victory without full, complete, total obedience to God.
