I will remind you again tonight that Canaan is not a picture of heaven. In the book of Joshua, we see clear evidence Canaan is a picture of victorious and triumphant living.

As Israel settles in from finishing the Southern Campaign, it would have been easy to look back, take a breather and settle down. Despite the notable defeat at Ai and the unwise covenant with the Gibeonites, they had basically walked in victory after victory.

They were in possession of a great deal of the land. The future was bright and life was great. And it's in that context that we need a good reminder of this truth:

As long as you are still breathing, God is Not Finished with You!

Years ago, a Southern Gospel group called, "The Hemphills" recording a tremendous song titled, "He's Still Working on Me." Their daughter, Candy Hemphill, sang:

There really ought to be a sign upon my heart
"Don't judge her yet, there's an unfinished part."
But I'll be perfect just according to His plan
Fashioned by the Master's loving hand

He's still working on me to make me what I ought to be
It took Him just a week to make the moon and stars
The sun and the earth and Jupiter and Mars
How loving and patient He must be. He's still working on me.

I don't know of a lesson that would help the average Christian walk in victory any more than this one: You are a work of grace that is still a work in progress. He's still working on you because God is Not Finished with You
