One of the greatest failures of the administration of JFK was the Bay of Pigs invasion. Without rehearsing all the details of that military blunder, I'll simply say the problem was primarily attributed to the lack of real-time information. It was deemed that the POTUS did not have all the accurate, up-to-date information he needed to serve as Commander in Chief during that invasion.
With the advent of satellite technology and other advancements in communications, President Kennedy determined that would never happen again. So in 1961 Kennedy ordered the construction of a 5525 square foot room that would house the latest technology to serve all future presidents in times of conflict.
It is operated by the National Security Council and helps provide our nation's leader with all the information he needs to control and command US forces around the world. This fortified bunker in the basement of the west wing of the White House is simply called, "The Situation Room."
When a situation arises, leaders gather in that room to garner all the information they need to make wise decisions in the midst of conflict. Similarly, as believers we will face struggles, conflict, and (at times) all out war in the spiritual realm. And we would do well to collect our information and be reminded of a battle plan.
Joshua and the Israelites are in a battle of their own as they begin the conquest for the Southern part of Canaan. This Southern campaign would be a vital part of their commitment to walking in victory. The lessons they learned and the difficulty they encountered provide vital information to us as we seek to walk in victory as well. Because we, like they, face plenty of battles of our own.
