The Land of Canaan is not a picture of a heaven. Poorly written gospel songs and badly delivered funeral sermons give the impression that Canaan is a distant promise for the ol' by and by. The fact is, it is a distinct possibility for the now and now.

I love the old hymn that declares:

On Jordan's stormy banks I stand a cast a wishful eye
To Canaan's fair and happy land where my possessions lie.
When I shall reach that happy place I'll be forever blessed
When I shall see my Father's face and in His bosom rest.

I am grateful that we can be "bound for the promise land." But Canaan is not a land of promise for which we are bound in the world to come. It's a land of promise that we can live in today.

The reason I spent time last week and again today clarifying this is because many Christians think that there is little to do between salvation and heaven than wait...long...and sit.

The Land of Canaan is a picture of victory. It's a place God wants His people to inhabit and occupy NOW.

As the book of Joshua opens, we read about the death of Moses and the commissioning of his successor, Joshua. We will soon see Israel cross the Jordan, conquer great cities, and experience great tragedy from sin in a believer's life. But they ultimately possess their possessions and walk in victory with God.

Last week we began noticing 4 keys to prosperity.

1. A prosperous life is dedicated to the purpose of God (1-2)

2. A prosperous life is driven by the promises of God (3-4, 6)

3. A prosperous life is dependent on the presence of God (5)

4. A prosperous life is dictated by the principles of God (7-9)
