Text: Luke 2:22-40
Introduction:
We looked at the shepherds coming to see the baby Jesus on the very night of the birth of Jesus Christ! The angelic host came to the skies above the Bethlehem shepherd's fields and they instructed the shepherds on what to do. Go to Bethlehem and you would find a baby wrapped in swaddling clothes and lying in a manger! And they found Him and worshipped Him. But what happened next? We will notice in our next passage!

22 And when the days of her purification according to the law of Moses were accomplished, they brought him to Jerusalem, to present him to the Lord;
the days for their purification. According to the Mosaic Law the mother of a male child was unclean. On the eighth day the boy was circumcised but she remained unclean for 33 more days, after which she presented a burnt offering and a sin offering for her cleansing (Leviticus 12:4-6).-Ryrie Study Notes
Joseph and Mary bring the baby Jesus to Jerusalem to present Him to the Lord! That is a great act of obedience for parents to follow to present your children to God as His servants!
23 (As it is written in the law of the LORD, Every male that openeth the womb shall be called holy to the Lord;)
The firstborn males were presented holy to the Lord!
24 And to offer a sacrifice according to that which is said in the law of the Lord, A pair of turtledoves, or two young pigeons.
This verse gives you an idea to the financial condition of Mary and Jospeh. They offer the cheapest sacrifice they could offer and that was the two turtle doves or pigeons, instead of a lamb!
Jewish families went through several ceremonies soon after a baby's birth: (1) Circumcision. Every boy was circumcised and named on the eighth day after birth (Leviticus 12:3; Luke 1:59,60).
