MARY (3 OF 4)
by Brian Mills
Title: Mary (3 of 4)
Series: Characters of Christmas
Author: Brian Mills
Text: Luke 1:26-38
Last week we jumped into the Characters of Christmas and we looked at Zachariah and Elizabeth...
How they were handed the assignment to carry the Forerunner of Christ (I will try to explain that more today) and they accepted it.
Remember they were barren yet they did not let their frustration become their foundation. They did not allow their disappointment to become their defeat.
Today we will keep reading in Luke 1 and I want us to specifically look at Mary.
The Mother of JESUS -
Now I know in today's world some raise Mary too high, yet some don't raise her high enough.
Mary was an ordinary woman whom God used in an unordinary way!
As we look at Mary today may you be encouraged no matter how "Ordinary" you find yourself, you might be the one God use to do something extraordinary through!
So let's dive into when Mary found out about JESUS.
Luke 1:26-38
[NIV] 26 In the sixth month of Elizabeth's pregnancy, So not June the 6th month but the 6th Month of Elizabeth's Pregnancy. - John the Baptist was 6 months older than Jesus God sent the angel Gabriel to Nazareth, a town in Galilee,
Now there is a lot here we need to pause on....
1st. We find Gabriel for the 3rd time in Scripture. We find him in Daniel, We found him last week meeting with Zachariah and now we find him speaking of the Messiah again 6 Months later.
SIDE NOTE: Imagine being in heaven and God says.. Gabriel.. it is time.. Go to the Temple...
Yet then leave the Temple, get out of Jerusalem, the Holy City, and go to a city called Nazareth.
Gabriel... Where is that? It does not pull up on Google Maps.
Nazareth was a small town in the middle of nowhere.
A town of only 200-300 people who were poor and lowly
Yet, in that town was a woman named Mary.. This lowly town and Mary found favor with the Lord
Just a good reminde ...
