3 Divisions of OT

1st 17 Books - HISTORICAL
Middle 5 Books - POETICAL
Last 17 Books - PROPHETICAL

Ezekiel falls into the last category as a Major Prophet. His was a message of judgment, written before/after the Babylonian Captivity. He was taken captive in the 2nd raid of Nebuchadnezzar upon Jerusalem.

His message outlines:

The FALL of Judah
The FOES of Judah
The FUTURE of Judah

He is preaching to a nation that is:

DISOBEDIENT - DISCONNECTED - DISCIPLINED

His preaching was directed toward the sins of people that had led to their exile. Because of their rebellion against God, judgment would fall in the form of being taken captive to a Babylonian land, and Jerusalem, their beloved city, would be destroyed.

When Jerusalem fell, Ezekiel turned his attention to the Gentile nations around Judah, and showed how that God's judgment would fall upon them as well. Not a popular message in Ezekiel's day - even LESS popular in our day.

JESUS IS COMING VICTORIOUSLY

JUDGMENT IS COMING VIOLENTLY

JOY IS COMING VIRTUOUSLY

(3) IDOLATRY

When judgment comes, God SPECIFICALLY states that ONLY 3 men would survive - NOAH - DANIEL - JOB.

Why would God pick those men out of His lineup? What is it about them that would spare them of the vengeance of God's wrath?

The jail of God's judgment doors are about to close, and only these 3 men had a get out of jail free card for themselves, not their family, friends or nation.
