Title: A Closer Look at the Book: Psalm 119

Text: Psalm 119:129-136

On March 9, 1985 the first-ever Adopt-a-Highway sign was erected on U. S. Hwy 69 in Tyler, Texas. The highway was adopted by the Tyler Civitan Club, which committed to picking up trash along a designated two-mile stretch of the road.

James Evans, an engineer for the Texas DOT, noticed litter blowing out of the back of a pickup truck. He soon began asking community groups to volunteer to pick up trash along designated sections of local highways. As a result, the idea for the Adopt-a-Highway program was birthed.

The program has saved states $265 million in government clean up costs; $19 million annually.

Once we are saved, we are adopted into God's family. Once we're adopted, we're placed on the King's Highway, and we are to keep our section of the highway clean and clutter free.

In the 17th stanza of this Psalter, the circumstances of the Psalmist have not changed. There is still trouble around him, but there is still TRUST within him. He is traveling the King's Highway all the way home.
