Samuel Brengle: "In God's school, we learn through the heart rather than the head, and by faith rather than by logic."
In God's school we find Daily Responsibilities, Divine Resources, and Distinct Rewards. We enroll as newborn babes, and we will graduate conformed into the image of God's dear Son.
In the 9th stanza of the 119th Pslater, David finds himself enrolled in God's school. The Teacher has called the class into session, and the test papers are handed out and graded.
1) WHAT He LEARNED in God's School!
Octavius Winslow: "Many hard lessons have we to learn, and relearn, in the Heavenly classroom. But, on the unwearied patience and tenderness of our Teacher who has nothing but the best interest of His students in mind."
A) PAINFUL Lessons
"AFFLICTED" (2X) (67,71) "brought low; humbled"
We don't know what the affliction was, but it was a painful lesson. He who had ruled from the TOP found himself reduced to the BOTTOM.
Spurgeon had Isaiah 48:10 on bedroom wall
"I have chosen thee in the furnace of affliction."
Spurgeon: "Affliction is the best bit of furniture in my house. It is the best book in my library. God's choicest were not all Affluent, but they were are Afflicted."
God knows how to afflict us, and bring us low. He never wastes pain.
