I have seen many "Help Wanted" signs in businesses/stores in recent months. I have also noticed an increase in pay, as incentive, to hire people. However, it seems that many have grown accustomed to handouts and freebies, and the work ethic of yesteryear has been lost.

This stanza of Psalm 119 finds the Psalmist in desperate need of help. It's not that he didn't want to help himself; it's that he COULDN'T help himself. He needed the help of Heaven on his behalf.

SORROW in his SOUL
HURT in his HEART
WEAKNESS in his WILL
MISERY in his MIND

In legal matters, we consult a lawyer. In money matters, we consult a banker. In health matters, we consult a doctor. However, there is only place a child of God can go for a sure place of help - the Word of God.

1) The BURDEN that He FACED!

A) A PAINFUL SITUATION (25a, 28a)

"My soul cleavers unto the dust" - brought low/prostate

Something has happened that brought him to the bottom. Perhaps it was the shame of his past sin or guilt of his past grievance. It has haunted him, humiliated him, humbled him.
We will never be LIFTED HIGH until we're BROUGHT LOW

"My soul melters for heaviness." - Melteth: weeping

SUNSHINE to SORROW
TRIUMPH to TEARS
WONDER to WEEPING

The prophets wept over the sins of the nation
Jesus wept over the sins of humanity.
David wept over his own sin.

B) A POWERFUL SOLUTION (25b, 28b)

"Quicken" - "revive, new life"

1st of 9X he prays to be "quickened"

"Strengthen" - not human strength/Heavenly strength

Once he is quickened, he can partake of God's strength. What is the source of quickening/strength?

"ACCORDING TO THY WORD!"

BOOK produces BOLDNESS
SCRIPTURES produce STRENGTH
LAW of God produces LIFE of God
