Title: "Beauty Is In The Eye of the Beholder" (3 of 22)
Text: Psalm 119:17-24

An idiom originated in the 3rd century B. C. that didn't find its way into the English language until the 18th century. Benjamin Franklin alluded to it in 1741 when he wrote in his "Poor Man's Almanac:"
"Beauty, like supreme dominion
Is not supported by majority opinion."
The original proverb was, "Beauty is in the eye of the beholder."
The meaning behind that statement is that what might be beautiful to one person may not appeal to someone else.
No doubt the Word of God was beautiful in the eyes of the Psalmist. The Word of God was something he loved, longed, learned, and leaned upon.
To the pilgrim, it is a Strong Staff.
To those in darkness, it is a Shining Light.
To the burdened, it is a Sweet Rest.
To the lost, it is a Sure Guide.
To the hurting, it is a Soothing Balm.
To the discouraged, it is a Stedfast Hope.
We should never come to the Word of God without praying the words of the Psalmist:
(18) "Open thou mine eyes, that I may behold wondrous things out of thy Law."
In the 3rd stanza of the Psalter we learn of:
1) His SACRED PRAYER!
A) To RECEIVE the BOUNTY of the Word (17)
The Psalmist understood the bounty of life only came through obedience to the Word of God. There was no life apart from the Law of the Lord.
Word of God BEGETS life:
(1 Peter 1:23) "...being born again, not of corruptible seed, but of incorruptible, by the word of God, which liveth and abideth for ever."
Word of God BETTERS life
(John 15:7,11) "If ye abide in me, and my words abide in you, ye shall ask what ye will, and it shall be done unto you...(11)These things have I spoken unto you, that my joy might remain in you, and that your joy might be full."
There is no JOY apart from JESUS
There is no BOUNTY apart from the Bible
There is no LIFE/LIBERTY apart from L ...
