Title: A Lion on the Loose (1 of 6)
Series: Bold As A Lion

Text: 2 Timothy 1:5-11
Ray Blankenship lived in Andover, Ohio. He got up one morning. He was making breakfast. It had been raining very hard where he lived. And as he looked out his window, he saw a ditch that was filled with water and a little girl that was being carried along in the water. He knew she was in serious, serious trouble because that ditch poured out underneath the road into a culvert, and if she wasn't able to get out before she hit that culvert, she'd be killed. So, he ran out of the house, and he ran down the ditch to get ahead of the little girl as the water was pushing her along so fiercely. He jumped into the roaring water. And when he surfaced, he was able to grab the girl's arm with one hand and then try and find something to brace himself with the other, and they were both now hurdling toward the culvert and certain death. Well, he finally got ahold of something, some rock that had jutted out in the ditch, and he was able to hold himself with that rock. And he thought, if I can just wait here until help comes, we can be rescued. But he didn't know how long that would be, and so he struggled, and he pushed, and he pulled, and he got the girl to safety and got himself to safety even before the firemen arrived. Well, he was hailed as a hero, and rightfully so, and on April 12, 1989, he received the Coast Guard Silver Lifesaving Medal. It's a fitting award for him, because what you don't know about Ray Blankenship, he can't swim. He was willing to dive in to save that little girl's life, even though he himself could not swim. That takes courage!
We're embarking on a new series today, a series about courage. I've entitled this series, "Bold as a Lion." It comes from Proverbs chapter 28, verse 1, "The wicked flee when no one is pursuing, but the righteous are bold as a lion." That word in Hebrew means "confident, secure, brave." A lion is all tho ...
