INTRODUCTION:

"Chuck Colson states that nothing is more Christian than forgiveness.....demonstrating trust in one who has fallen.:

Nothing else do well defines the Gospel as Forgiveness. In fact, the Bible teaches us that forgiveness one toward another is an absolute necessity in the Church.

In this sermon I want to challenge you. To search your heart. Take a deep look inside of yourself. Are you holding in and hiding feelings of unforgiveness? Are you holding a grudge? Perhaps for years, perhaps you've kept it well covered up. You think no one knows. But in fact it is eating you up inside.
There is hope. At the cross you can find the meaning, motive and model of forgiveness. You can be set free from the prison of unforgiveness.

I) FIRST, PUT AWAY ANGER AND BITTERNESS- VS. 31

"Be put away" to carry off. Get it out of our lives. Now, we are human and there is no way we are going to be able to never be angry again. However, there are heart issues and sinful reactions that we need to root out of our lives.

In this verse Paul gives us the very opposite of forgivenss-unforgiveness. 6 evil virtues describe an unforgiving heart.

A) THE INWARD EXPRESSIONS-

1) BITTERNESS- Resentment, a bitter gall. A smoldering grudge-filled attitude. This is the first step in the process.

2) WRATH-THUMOS. Passion, anger, a violent outbreak in anger. The passion of the moment.

3) ANGER- A settled indignation. Your on my list buddy. Christians don't keep lists.
The real issue is a heart issue.

B) THE OUTWARD EXPRESSIONS-

1) CLAMOR-crying out. Yelling, Screaming.

2) SLANDER- defamation of someone that rises from a bitter heart.

3) MALICE- A word for general acts of evil. The actual act of hurting someone.
High school shooters - interview with parents - I will never forget and I will never forgive them - they don't deserve it. ...
