Title: The Test (2 of 2)
Series: Generous Life
Author: Jeff Ecklund
Text: Psalm 51:12, Isaiah 32:8
We continue our series this morning "generous life" and I want to start by thanking so many people for the heart of generosity they have. I see people step up when there is a physical need, a financial need...I see people giving their time, talent and treasure to serve the needs of others... and I see people go above and beyond on a consistent basis.
Last week I preached a message that the key idea was that to be a generous people we have to be anchored by gratitude...
And gratitude is expressed in being thankful..(from the abundance of the heart the mouth speaks)
How many people that heard that message would say that it changed some things for them this last week?
We also prayed that God would break any strategy and spirit of complaining...Anyone feel like they are experiencing some freedom in that area?
I believe that a generous life must be developed and must be restored...
Restored because the original blueprint of man is in the image of God
Psalm 51:12 (NKJV)
12 Restore to me the joy of Your salvation, And uphold me by Your generous Spirit.
And God who created us, is a generous and giving God....and when sin entered the picture, the original blueprint was fractured
And a generous life must also be developed...
Because we are not born generous. We start out needing nourishment, clothing, attention...
We are born grasping, needy, selfish, self-centered..all effects of the fall and sin...and yet we are "hard-wired" so to speak to be giving, because we are created in the image of God.
Just as being a thankful person has scientific health benefits, some of the same studies and metrics show that giving affects your health in a positive way.
