Mr. Irrelevant

What do you call the last player chosen in the annual draft of the National Football League? I know what some of you are thinking, "Pastor, I just don't care!" That's awesome! You obviously have a life! For many of the rest of us, who live and die by the sword of our favorite team's record, two words pop to mind: Mr. Irrelevant. After each draft, the last player chosen - the new Mr. Irrelevant - and his family are invited to Disneyland, a golf tournament, a regatta, and a ceremony awarding him the Lowsman Trophy; looks like the Heisman, but shows a player fumbling a football. All done in fun!

What are the odds of the greatest player in the history of the N.F.L. ever losing to a Mr. Irrelevant? Zero, right? Two weeks ago, the newest Mr. Irrelevant, quarterback Brock Purdy, led his team to a victory over Tom Brady, in the eyes of many the GOAT, greatest of all time! They didn't just win; they slaughtered the GOAT! Blood everywhere! Mr. Irrelevant had a spectacular game! Go figure! Truth is, sometimes, strange things do happen...

In the story before us, we find Joseph seemingly playing the role of "Mr. Irrelevant" as he is called to fill an unsavory role. Joseph is the most overlooked character of the Christmas Story, though God chose him and placed him there for a very specific and needful reason.

If Joseph had of refused to faithfully fill his role as the "step-father" of the Lord, the entire story would have been flawed and questioned, but he fully complied.
