Title: In Between Now and Next (12)
Series: Numbers-Life In Between
Author: Jim Perdue
Text: Numbers 25-32
Believe it or not, you are almost there! You are really close to finishing this study through the book of Numbers. I know many of you thought you wouldn't make it, but here you are. It's the second to last sermon in this series. We plan to finish this series next Sunday if y'all still want to keep me around for another week.
One thing we've learned is that God's people are a lot like us. Their wanderings in the wilderness parallel the Christian navigating the world in which we live. They had struggles, so do we. They had victories, so do we. But through it all, we see a God who never changes. He is always faithful and always good.
For the last few messages, we have slowed down a bit and looked more closely at a some of the chapters we were studying. Today, we're going to fly a bit higher and look at several chapters all at once. We're looking at Numbers 25-32, in a sermon called In Between Now and Next. READ 25:3; 26:1-2, 63-65; 28:1-2; 29:40; 32:11-15
*Do you know why this Old Testament book is called, Numbers? By now, I hope you do. But, if for some reason, you haven't been able to be here for our study, I'll share with you the reason. Twice in this book, God's people are numbered, or counted. That's why it's called Numbers. The Hebrew title was, "In the Wilderness," which is very appropriate as well. But we call it Numbers because God instructs Moses to take a census of the people on two occasions. The first time, God says in Numbers 1:2, "Take a census of all the congregation of the people of Israel..." (ON SCREEN) And again, in Numbers 26:2, God says, "Take a census of all the congregation of the people of Israel..." It's another census but a completely different group of people. Why is this important? Well, for one thing, it teaches us that God cares about people and that every detail matters. Beyond that, it was important for the people ...
