INTRODUCTION: 10.6.23 - Jerry Boykin, a retired Army general and former Delta Force commander says the current state of military readiness is a grave threat to national security. He points out the military has missed recruiting goals by more than 25,000 troops over the last two years. This has given the U.S. its smallest fighting force since the early days of WWII. "We are doing things that have nothing to do with preparing for war. We're not attracting young men and women across America because we are offering them nothing but bullying and woke agenda training. Would you want to go into a military that does not train you for war, that does not give you anything to make you feel like somebody who can go out on that battlefield and be victorious? What they DO give you is critical race theory and inclusion training. The decline is impacting special forces units - not just the general rank and file."
I think the general is pointing out how important it is to set people up for success, not failure.
The Lord's prayer sets us up for prayer success in prayer. It does so in at least three ways.
I. FOCUS SETS US UP FOR SUCCESS
Matthew 6:9 "Our Father in heaven, hallowed be YOUR name, YOUR kingdom come, YOUR will be done on earth as it is in heaven."
Notice that before we ever get to any of the "gimmees" we've already done some important praying. In this model prayer we only see one line that's given over to "gimmees" and even that line is modest - "Give us today our daily bread." The focus of this prayer is on God, not us.
One common reason Christians become frustrated with prayer, doubt the power of prayer, or give up on prayer altogether, is that they prayed FOR something and didn't see the answer to their prayer so they conclude ...
