Title: Is It Possible To Give Back
Author: Donald Cantrell
Text: Psalms 116:12 & 17
Thanksgiving Sermon
Psa 116:12 KJV - What shall I render unto the LORD [for] all his benefits toward me?
Psa 116:17 KJV - I will offer to thee the sacrifice of thanksgiving, and will call upon the name of the LORD.
I - The Sacrifice of Service
II - The Tongue of Thanksgiving
III - The Gift of Generosity
IV - The Fragrance of Faithfulness
V - The Aroma of Appreciation
Have you ever tried to give a gift to someone that had everything?
It literally makes the attempt seem insignificant and trivial, but its not the gift that you give that matters, but the meaning of that gift. If we are honest with ourselves, anything that we give back to God is seemingly insignificant in the big scheme of things.
If we begin comparing gifts, we will come up lacking and our gift will be inadequate because the Lord gave his life for us and none of us can compare our gift to that gift. I mean can you give the owner of a jewelry store a mere piece of jewelry; would it not seem to be an insufficient gift?
The Psalmist has been experiencing some dire and dreadful difficulties, but as he begins to look over his life, he realizes that the goodness and the graciousness of the Lord upon his life, far surpasses his trials and troubles. The man may have been near death, but the Lord had delivered him.
As he begins to think about the mighty blessings of God upon his life, he begins to add them up, realizing that he does not have the means, nor the capabilities of ever repaying the Lord. It might do us good to compare our affection to the Lord to his affection to us, I would come up rather short!!!
I want to ask you a simple question, "Is it possible to give back to the Lord and even come close to repaying him for his blessings and his benefits?"
