OPENING ILLUSTRATION: In C.S. Lewis classic work, "The Chronicles of Narnia", winter covered the land under the rule of the white Witch. She has now enslaved Edmund the other children were terribly afraid of what might happen to them and their brother... but then Mr. Beaver tells them of a Character they've not yet met. Aslan. "He's the King. He's the Lord of the whole wood. ...the word has reached us that he has come back. He'll settle the White Queen all right. ... He'll put all to rights as it says in an old rhyme in these parts:

Wrong will be right, when Aslan comes in sight, At the sound of his roar, sorrows will be no more, When he bares his teeth, winter meets its death, And when he shakes his mane, we shall have spring again.

Lewis called the Chronicles of Naria a supposal - he was telling the story of Christ as it might play out in a different world filled with different creatures. Well we aren't looking today at a fictional supposal... we are looking at History yet to occur.

INTRODUCTION: God told David - 2 Samuel 7:12-13 (ESV)

12 When your days are fulfilled and you lie down with your fathers, I will raise up your offspring after you, who shall come from your body, and I will establish his kingdom. 13 He shall build a house for my name,

That part of the promise seems to have been fulfilled in Solomon, but the rest of the verse indicates that this was a greater promise that wasn't at all fulfilled in Solomon.

13b. and I will establish the throne of his kingdom forever.

Solomon died, the kingdom was divided, ultimately fell into subjection to the Assyrians and the Babylonians. It wasn't at all established.

We might assume this promise was fulfilled by Jesus Christ after all Gabriel said to Mary - Luke 1:29-33 (ESV)32... And the Lord God will give to him the throne of his father David, 33 and he will reign over the ...
