Now: A little foolishness can have disastrous consequences.
INTRODUCTION:
9:18- a little folly cancels out a great deal of wisdom. You see, it only takes a little something bad to cancel out something good.
A mother spends 21 years teaching a son to be wise, and some girl comes along and makes a fool out of him in 5 minutes.
A little folly, a little foolishness - that is all it takes. It can be the thing that can ruin a life and spoil the lives of others.
ILLUS: Making a cake for Gina. I mixed up teaspoons and tablespoons. The dog wouldn't eat it.
Apply: a respected man can live years of integrity and honor and spoil it all with one act of impropriety.
This is a call to live wisely and understand the repercussions of foolish actions.
I) In Life - 1-3
1) Dead flies are small but can make a powerful stink.
2) The right hand is strength, the left is weakness. Wisdom is a man's strength, folly is weakness.
3) You can't hide stupid! A fool reveals himself.
The wise man and the fool go in different directions. It will be obvious to all at some point.
Galatians 5:9 - a little yeast leavens the whole lump. It works it way through everything. Foolishness is like that. Pretty soon it will work its way through every area of our lives.
II) In Leadership - 4-7; 16-19
Sometimes the one who is not wise is the king. ILLUS: Ne Win ruled Burma -now Myanmar - for 26 years. During this time he took them from prosperity to poverty. Married 7 times the dictator is said to have bathed in dolphin's blood to regain his youth. He was also known for employing a mixture of superstition and mysticism, which sometimes lead to bizarre policies being introduced. His belief in numerology, for example, lead him to declare in 1987 that only currency notes in 456 and 90 Kyats (numbers divisible by 9, his personal lucky numbe ...
