Title: Renewing The Mind-pt 1 (2)
Series: Mind Games and Emotional Gains
Author: Robert Dawson
Text: Colossians 2:6-8, Romans 12:1-2
At some point in the parenting pilgrimage every parent experiences the grip of fear when their little one disappears in a store or public place. It happens to every parent. They are quick, slippery, and sneaky little things. Take your eye off them for one second to examine a potential purchase and they are off and running like a crazed dog when the kennel gate is opened.
When you realize they are gone and not just around the next aisle, panic sets in. It is not that we are afraid they will break something and cost us money. Instead, our mind runs to the darkest places. We are afraid that someone has taken them. (Mom said she was never concerned about someone taking me because she knew after a few hours with me they would bring me back because I was so aggravating. Obviously the huge self-esteem parenting movement had not yet taken hold).
Because that is a concern and fear, we teach them, don't talk to strangers, "Stranger Danger," don't get into cars with other people and if someone tries to take you scream, scratch, bite, kick `em where it counts and run.
While it is possible this might happen, it is not probable, not everyone is looking to hurt or harm. However, because it is a possibility, we rightly teach and warn our children. That is what a good, loving, and responsible parent does. We try and prepare our children.
God, being the good, loving, and responsible father He is, does the same for us, His children.

Writing to the church in Colossae Paul says this in Colossians 2.6-8. He writes, "Therefore, as you have received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk in Him, 7 having been firmly rooted and now being built up in Him and established in your faith, just as you were instruc ...
