INTRODUCTION: (Show picture of the 1980 Olympic awards ceremony with the US Hockey Team winning gold.) How many of you know what is happening in this picture? That's right, it is an Olympic ceremony where the champions are being awarded the gold medal. How many know who these champions were and what was the year? That's right, this is the 1980 US hockey team. The Soviets were favored to win gold. When they were beaten by the US team, Sports Illustrated called it "The single most incredible moment in all of sports history."

One day, you and I will have our own awards ceremony in eternity. The halls of heaven will ring with praise and celebration. Witnesses from every nation and every generation will watch with eager anticipation. Even the angels will pause because our race of faith will be done. The moment will have arrived for us to stand at the platform and receive our reward. Reward day is an encouragement for us to work hard, endure and persevere in the kingdom of God. I want us to see that in four ways this morning.

I. REWARD DAY IS CERTAIN

When the apostle Paul wrote to churches, he referred to a judgment at the "bema" of Jesus. "Bema" is the Greek word for "judgment seat." No one wrote in more detail about that day than the apostle Paul, perhaps because he experienced an unexpected preview of its significance one day in the Greek city of Corinth.

Paul had been living in Corinth for several months, spreading the news of the gospel at every opportunity, when trouble hit. His enemies dragged him into court and charged him with "persuading people to worship God in ways contrary to the law" (Acts 18:13).
