Title: Make A Difference (3 of 4)
Series: Our Mission
Author: Jordan Easley
Text: Matthew 4:14-16
Over the past couple weeks, we've been talking about Our Mission as a church. Love God. Find Community. Make a Difference.
We began this series talking about the foundation of our mission... and that is: Loving God. If we don't love God correctly... (the truth is...) we'll never accomplish our mission. Loving God correctly and completely is the foundation of our mission.
But not only is LOVING GOD the foundation of our mission... it's also the first step in accomplishing our mission. So the question we've got to ask ourselves is this: Do I truly love God... with the kind of love that God desires... and requires?
We saw from [Deut. 6:5] that Loving God is a decision. Moses used the Hebrew word AHEV for love in this verse to describe... HOW we are supposed to love God with ALL our heart... ALL of our soul... and ALL of our strength... He said AHEV the Lord your God... He said: Love the Lord your God with your ALL!
If you'll remember, we saw that word AHEV... doesn't speak of an unconditional love... but rather, a decisional love. We must decide to love God-not only at the time of salvation... but every single day of our life. Here's how this was designed by God to work. You ready?
Your decision (to love God)-changes your position (with God)-and when your position changes (with God)-your reflection changes (for God).
...and it's your reflection... that allows your life to make a difference... which is the final phrase of our mission... Let me ask you a question today: Can you honestly say that you are living a life that's making a difference for God?
In [Matthew 5:14-16] Jesus says, 14 "You are the light of the world. A city situated on a hill cannot be hidden. 15 No one lights a lamp and puts it under a basket, but rather on a lampstand, and it gives light for all who are in the house. 16 In the same way, let your light shine befor ...
