There are many companies and organizations that you know... that have mastered that art of telling their story... and connecting their brand to a familiar phrase.
- It's finger lickin' good-KFC
- Eat fresh-Subway
- Melts in your mouth, not in your hand-M&M's
- Just do it-NIKE
- Taste the Rainbow-Skittles
- I'm loving it-McDonalds
And the truth is... these companies have done such a great job with this... that we could have started with no words ... and just shown their logos... and you, most likely, would have known their slogan by heart, right away.
Just the fact that we know that-shows the power of clarity and communication when it comes to who they are... and what they're all about.
Not long ago, our leadership team went away on a retreat... and at that retreat, we asked the question... "When people see this logo (our church logo)... what slogan comes to mind?" When they think about (the church)... what do think we should be known for? [Preaching the Bible... Vertical Worship... Age-group ministries... Serving the community... Living on mission... There are so many things!]
How do you capsulate everything the church should be known for?
For years now, people have asked me, "What's the mission statement for our church?" ...and I've always responded by saying... "It's the Great Commission." You know the Great Commission. These are the final instructions the church received from Jesus before He went to be with the Father in Heaven.
[Matt. 28:18-20] 18 Jesus came near and said to them, "All authority has been given to me in heaven and on earth. 19 Go, therefore, and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20 teaching them to observe everything I have commanded you. And remember, I am with you always, to the end of the age."
