Title: Courage To Stand (8)
Series: Daniel 3
Author: Stephen Whitney
Text: Daniel 3:1-18
Walter Anderson in, Courage Is A Three Letter Word, wrote that real courage means saying Yes to life instead of backing down when we face adversity. He wrote that courage is not the absence of fear, but acting in spite of fear.
There are times when we hesitate to do God's will. We allow ourselves to be bullied and we turn away from what we know is the right thing to do. Then we regret our lack of courage.
Real courage is not limited to a battlefield or to some great feat in the face of danger. It was demonstrated by the five-year-old girl Star Arrane, who scaled a rugged mountain canyon to save her mother's life after their van plunged more than 100 feet down a cliff in the mountains of Oregon or the 17-year-old Gregory Delzer from South Dakota who pushed two classmates out of the path of an automobile. His legs were broken but the girls were uninjured.
The real tests of courage are much broader and deeper.
Real courage comes from an inner faith that believes:
God is greater than any situation which I may face.
Psalm 56:11 In God I trust; I will not be afraid. What can (GNB mere) man do to me?
Courage (290x) - Heb. to be firm, resolute or strong.
The 12 spies were told to be strong as they crossed into the Promised to see what it was like (Numbers 13:20).
Moses had it when he stood before Pharaoh.
David had it when he faced Goliath in battle.
Elijah demonstrated it when he confronted the 450 prophets of Baal on Mount Carmel and called down fire from heaven.
Esther had it when she entered the court of the king without being invited which could mean death.
