Title: Living A Changed Life
Author: David Cook
Text: Colossians 3:12-17
Introduction: One of my favorite humorous stories tells of three sisters, ages 92, 94, and 96, who lived together in the same house. One night, the 96-year-old sister drew a bath, and as she put one foot out, she paused and shouted, "Was I getting in the tub or out?" The 94-year-old sister called, "I don't know, but I will come up to see." She started up the stairs and shouted, "Was I going up or down?" The 92-year-old sister sat at her favorite table, sipping her tea, listening to her sisters with a smirk. She shook her head and said, "I sure hope I will never get that forgetful," and knocked on the wooden table for good measure. Then she shouted to her sisters, "I'll be up there to help both of you as soon as I find out who's at the door."
That story reminds me that we live in a world that is often quick to catch the faults and flaws of others. And if we forget who God is and who we are as His children, we can become forgetful and jaded like those three oblivious sisters. However, God has a better plan for our lives, and as His restored people, we can live a new life that honors Him.
1. We have a changed identity in Christ. (Colossians 3:12)
Our relationship with God is not based on our performance but on His grace. Just as Israel was called the "apple of His eye" (Deuteronomy 32:10), so the Christian community is chosen as "a royal priesthood, a holy nation, God's special possession" (1 Peter 2:9). Our primary purpose in Christ is primarily to praise our great God and Savior, point others to Him in our daily lives.
What is most amazing about God is that He knows about us, yet He still loves us. A $100 bill is still valuable if you wad up and trample on it like a piece of paper trash. Why? Even though crumpled, it is still worth $100. We are much more valuable to God than money. In fact, to God, we are worth the very blood of His sinless Son.
Consider that God does not se ...
