Introduction
A. I love to watch people.
1. People are intriguing.
2. Go to the airport or somewhere and watch all the people there.
3. I wonder what's going on in their lives, where are they going, and stuff like that.
B. Look into the faces of the people who were at the cross.
1. Simon was there.
2. The rulers were there.
3. The roman soldiers were there.
4. Two criminals were there as well.
C. There were three men who were crucified on that day.
1. The one in the middle died for sin.
2. One thief died in sin.
3. The other thief died to sin.
D. The last meeting the two thieves had on this side of eternity was there most important one.
1. They met jesus.
2. Today's message focuses on one of these men.
I. The man with a new attitude. Vs. 40-41. Both men were accusing and reviling jesus in the beginning. They were crying to get out of a jam. Some are more interested in release than repentance. The one man came to repentance. Repentance is a change of mind about:
A. Yourself. Vs. 41 ''we indeed justly...''
1. Repentance brings us to see ourselves as ''born sinners.''
A. ''Behold i was shaped in iniquity and in sin did my mother conceive me.''
B. We are born with a sin nature.
2. Repentance brings us to see our bad choices.
a. He was in the company of robbers.
B. ''Evil companions corrupt good manners.'' in other words we become like the people with whom we hang out.
3. Repentance brings us to see ourselves as responsible.
A. The thief was aware of the fact what he had done was wrong and the judgment was right.
B. That is a good sign.
B. Sin.
1. He now understands the seriousness of sin.
2. We live in a generation that doesn't want to believe in the fact of sin.
