Introduction
A. ''How poor are you?'' one day a father from a wealthy family took his son on a trip to the country with the firm purpose of showing how poor people can be. They spent the day on the farm of a very poor family. When they returned the father asked, ''how was the trip?'' ''very good dad.'' ''did you see how poor people can be?'' the father asked. ''Yeah!'' ''and what did you learn?'' the son answered, ''i saw that we have a dog at home, and they have four. We have a pool that reaches to the middle of the garden, they have a creek that has no end. We have imported lamps in the garden, they have the stars. Our patio reaches to the front yard, they have a whole horizon.'' when the little boy was finished the dad was speechless. His son added, ''thanks dad for showing me how poor we are.''
B. This lesson teaches us we have reversed the price tags in society.
c. The beatitudes are all about jesus placing returning us to that which is truly valuable.
1. Remember, i said last week, ''happiness is an inside job.''
2. This is the very opposite of what the world thinks.
3. I am about to confess something that's really going to disappoint the men in the congregation. Recently i bought a pressure washer. With it came a video. (now, rather than written instructions you have video instructions. It's really hard to drag a tv behind a pressure washer.) Men, don't disown me, but i watched the video. I was not that familiar with these things, and i knew it had great potential for great harm, so i thought i'd better , this one time, give in and actually follow the instructions from the manufacturer.
4. The manufacturer of everyone is god. Yet, very few people turn to him to find out how to run their lives.
