Introduction
A. There is lots of talk about the approaching millennium.
1. On the part of many there is concern, even fear.
2. Y2k, the stock market, the state of the presidency all give people concerns.
B. The world is attempting to prepare itself technologically for the turn of the century.
C. Christians need to prepare themselves emotionally and spiritually for the new millennium.
D. Today, i want to begin a series along the theme of preparation.
1. I have chosen ii corinthians.
2. The community was a lot like our world today.
3. The problems were similar to ours.
e. There are three main thoughts running through the first 7 verses.
1. Christians and non-christians alike will deal with difficult issues in their lives.
2. God has promised us something the world can't give.
3. We can help one another.
I. The presence of god's comfort.
A. Vs. 3 tells us god provides for our two greatest needs.
1. For our sin he provides his mercy.
A. Titus 3:5 ''not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to his mercy he saved us...''
B. Psalms 103:10 ''he has not dealt with us after our sins nor rewarded us according to our iniquities; for as the heaven is high above the earth so great is his mercy toward them that fear him.''
2. For our suffering he provides his comfort.
A. There are some things we can only get from god.
B. So many turn to alcohol. (southern comfort)
C. Others turn to drugs. Uppers or downers.
D. Others still turn to affairs.
B. Because of who god is he provides his comfort.
1. The word comfort means to call along side of.
2. We have the help of a divine person who comes to our side in times of trouble.
