Introduction
A. As we approach a new millennium there is lots of talk about the return of jesus christ.
1. Unfortunately there are lots of predictions being made. Some are being made by people who, formally, were solid.
2. No one knows when christ will return.
3. The fact is he is going to return.
B. We should be ready.
1. I corinthians 15:55 ''o death where is your sting, o grave where is your victory?''
A. Paul was saying if he were alive when christ returned he would go up singing, ''o death where is your sting?''
b. If he were not alive he would sing, ''o grave where is your victory?''
2. We must always be ready?
C. What if christ doesn't come before the millennium and we die before he returns, what then?
1. The thought of death has a bitterness attached to it.
2. Death is still an enemy.
3. For the christian it is bitter/sweet.
4. Like sour grape candy.
D. In 2 corinthians 5 the writer says god makes us some promises that give us hope in the face of death.
I. We will have a new radiance. Vs. 1-5
A. This body is temporary. Vs. 1,2
1. Paul used familiar terminology when he talked about a tent. Paul was a tent maker.
2. A tent is not the best accommodation.
a. When i was a boy we camped out a lot. Most often before daylight the tent was torn down, or rain had leaked into the tent.
B. A tent is fragile like our bodies.
C. ''We groan''. That's scriptural.
3. ''Destroyed'' means to lose down or dismantle.
4. Someone approached john quincy adams when he was in his 80's and asked, ''how are you mr. Adams?'' he replied, ''john quincy adams is quite well, sir, quite well. But this house in which he lives is becoming dilapidated. It is tottering on its foundation. Time and the seasons have almost ...
