Introduction

A. Recently in america there has been a battle for the commandments.

1. You may recall the former governor of alabama took a stand in support of an alabama judge who refused to remove the 10 commandments from the wall of his court room.

2. The right to display the commandments has been hotly debated across our country.

3. I guess the problem is our leaders and supreme court judges are afraid if people see the commandments they might be persuaded to obey them.

B. We need to be reminded the commandments are for our benefit.

1. Adherence to the commandments establishes an orderly life.

2. The commandments are positive not negative.

C. With that said, we also need to know the commandments are not the final word.

1. Paul harvey, commentator, does a thing called ''the rest of the story.''

2. We need to hear the rest of the story about the role of the commandments.

D. This is exactly what is discussed in 2 corinthians 3: 7-18.

1. The writer says the commandments are glorious.

2. He goes on to say there is something even more glorious.

3. That something is salvation provided by the lord jesus christ.

4. The glory of god's grace in salvation far surpasses any glory before jesus.

I. Salvation is a transcending glory. Vs. 7- 11

A. It is the difference in the moon and the sun.

1. When you are saved god places a glory back into your life that was lost because of sin.

A. Romans 3:23 ''for all have sinned and come short of the glory of god.''

B. When sin entered glory was stripped away.

C. We talk about someone's salvation being glorious.

d. All salvation is glorious.

2. The writer says ''the ministry of death'' or the law was glorious.

A. God gave to moses the commandments.
