Introduction

A. His name is beck weathers

1. The date, place, and event.

A. The date was spring of 1996

B. The place was mt. Everest, the world's tallest mountain.

C. The event was a guided expedition to the summit of this mountain.

2. The results of this climb are well known to adventure seekers of all kinds but especially climbers.

A. Before the event had ended several climbers had lost their lives.

b. Several more lost limbs and were permanently impaired due to frostbite.

3. One of the remarkable stories coming out of this tragedy is the story of beck weathers.

A. He collapsed on the descent from the summit.

B. Everyone was so exhausted and sick from oxygen depletion no one was able to assist him.

C. He was left on the mountain for dead. In fact one rescuer chipped ice from his frozen face only to remark, ''there's no hope for him.''

d. But to everyone's surprise beck weathers walked into camp after 12 hours in 50-60 below zero cold that was worsened by hurricane force winds.

E. Later everyone thought he would die, so again, many of those descending the mountain left him for dead.

F. Once again, he walked out!

4. The most poignant sentence coming out of this remarkable story was one made by a fellow climber. ''He was left for dead, but he walked out alive.''

B. Today, as remarkable as that story is i have a better one for you.

1. 2000 years ago one named jesus christ was left for dead.

2. The difference in he and weathers is jesus was dead.

3. But, he refused to remain so.

4. Three days after his death he walked out victorious over death, sin, and the grave!

5. That is the wonderful story of easter.

C. In the easter story is a message for everyone here today.
