A. One of the great battles we face in life is ''balance.
1. We are by nature extremists.
2. It is difficult to find balance in many areas.
B. One of the most difficult is confidence.
1. We are either lacking confidence, thus self-imposing limitations on ourselves.
2. Or, we become selfishly arrogant.
C. As we focus on lessons learned from a manger there is a great story in luke 2:25-35 that teaches us some good lessons in confidence.
I. There is one more mighty than you.
A. You see in the life of simeon great confidence.
1. Simeon recognized that he was not the final authority in his life.
2. He recognized circumstances were not the final authority.
3. He recognized that religion was not the final authority.
4. He awaited the coming messiah. That was the final authority.
B. Humanistic thought prevails today and says just the opposite.
1. The humanist manifesto says, ''we believe in maximum individual autonomy-reject all religious, moral codes that repress freedom...demand civil liberties...''
2. The humanist way is man is the ultimate authority.
C. Knowing there is one greater than us builds confidence because:
1. It gives us focus in life.
2. It provides unlimited resources.
